The Museo en los Cerros (MEC) was founded in 2012 by Lucio Boschi in the Quebrada de Huichaira, a few kilometers from Tilcara, Jujuy. Designed by architect César Rodríguez Marquina, the building embraces both the beauty and the harshness of its chosen territory, creating a space where photography lives alongside the community and the rhythms of the Quebrada.
Since its founding, the museum has housed a permanent collection devoted to leading figures of Argentine photography. In 2025, the collection expanded to a Latin American perspective, bringing together works by key photographers from across the region, from 1920 to 2024. Both stages of the collection were curated by Rodrigo Alonso.
Our spaces
Since opening in 2012, the museum has housed the permanent collection rooms, the Sala de Jujeños, the library and the shop. In 2020 it expanded with the Sala del Silencio (Silence Room) and the Sala Sonora (Sound Room), also known as the Sala Nueva (New Room), which also hosts workshops, talks and screenings. In 2025, the Sala del Agua (Water Room) was added.
The library, open to the public, holds a collection specialized in photography and serves as a place for research, reading and gathering.
